Ghazipur Flower Market: EEI found at Ghazipur Flower Market; defused

An unattended bag containing an IED was found at the Ghazipur flower market here on Friday morning, officials said, adding that the device was later defused. The incident comes ahead of Republic Day celebrations in the nation’s capital on January 26.

The city’s security apparatus is on high alert as the event approaches.

Firefighters said they received the information about the suspicious unattended bag that was spotted in the flower market at 10:19 a.m.

A senior police officer said earlier that a suspicious metal box was found in the market.

Officials from the Delhi Police Special Cell, the NSG Bomb Detection and Disposal Team and the Fire Brigade quickly arrived on the scene and cordoned off the area.

“We were notified by the Delhi Police about the suspicious object around 11am. The IED was destroyed using a controlled explosion technique. Samples of the IED have been collected and the explosive will be checked and reported to Delhi Police,” an NSG officer said.

According to official sources, the black-colored bag weighed around 3 kg.

A bomb suit wearing NSG personnel was seen at the site where a clearance container known as the Total Containment Vessel (TVC) was brought.
